Emily Choi is an Assistant Professor at the Jindal School of Management. Previously she was at the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business where she received her PhD in Management of Organizations in 2012. Prior to her PhD, she had a career in the high technology industry where she worked at International Business Machines (IBM) as a manager in supply chain operations; at Apple as a senior manager of new product operations; started up a supplier sourcing solution company in China, and then helped startup E2open, a software supply chain solution company in Silicon Valley, CA.

Dr. Choi studies organizational strategy and entrepreneurship topics. She draws on her prior entrepreneurial experience and supply chain management career to ground her research in real world problems. Specifically, her research addresses why new firms establish relationships (e.g., strategic alliances) with other firms and how those relationships affect new firms’ performance outcomes (e.g., time to initial public offerings) while considering the status of their legitimacy. In addition, her research addresses how the pattern of interpersonal relationships influence trust and spark innovation within groups and organizations. Her work is published in Research Policy, Organization Science, and Management Science. She also holds an MBA from Arizona State University, W.P. Carey School of Business; a Master degree in International Management from Thunderbird School of Global Management, and a BA from Washington University in St. Louis.
