Final Award Distribution

Most students choose to earn a master’s degree. Others start the program with a previously earned MBA or other advanced degree and opt for the Graduate Certificate in Project Management. The chart to the right shows the proportion of students ending the program at each option and those not earning any award (DNF). Master’s degree graduates are also awarded the Graduate Certificate in Project Management upon successful completion of the Project Management Core courses.

Most students complete their desired program option within the planned time for their cohort; however, sometimes changes in their work and family environment necessitate taking time off and returning later or switching between the on-campus and online modes of the program. Many of us start our professional careers as individual contributors, then advance as a result of our performance working with others on project teams, first as project team members, then later as a project coordinators or project managers. Perhaps later we are successful and become program or business unit managers. Since we didn’t necessary aspire to these project roles when we started our undergraduate studies and professional careers, project management is often referred to as “the accidental profession.” And unless a strong project management culture exists in our organization, we may take an ad-hoc approach to project management with widely varying degrees of success.

The offerings of the Project Management Program at UT Dallas were designed in collaboration with local industry experts to develop the competencies of their practicing project managers. They offer a unique blend of technical and sociocultural skill development and will help you prepare be purposeful and successful, both as a project management practitioner and as an organizational leader and business manager.
